Best time to visit Phuket

There is no single perfect month — only a better match for beaches, crowds, and rates. Here is the practical split travelers actually use.

The quick answer

For calm seas and classic beach weather: roughly November through April (peak often December–March). For greener hills, softer rates, and fewer crowds: May through October, knowing the southwest monsoon can mean rain bursts and rough west-coast surf — boat trips get cancelled more often.

Pattern summary based on typical Phuket tropical seasonality (dry NE monsoon vs SW monsoon). Always check a short-range forecast before boat days.

Dry season (Nov–Apr)

Lower rainfall probability, calmer Andaman conditions on many days, busier beaches and higher hotel rates — especially late December and Chinese/Western New Year weeks. Book hillside boutiques and cliff villas early if your dates are fixed.

Yanui Beach, Phuket, in the dry season
Dry season typically brings calmer seas and clearer skies.

Green / monsoon season (May–Oct)

Expect short heavy showers, higher humidity, and lusher landscapes. West-coast swimming can be restricted by red flags on rough days; east-coast or pool-focused stays are a rational pivot. Rates and availability often improve for boutique hotels near Patong.

Lush hillside pool in the green season
Green season trades calm surf for lusher landscapes and softer rates.

How season changes where you stay

  • Beach-first trips in dry season: Emerald Bay / beachfront peers matter more — see Rosewood Phuket.
  • Pool-and-food trips in green season: Hillside Patong/Kalim boutiques shine — Baan Yin Dee, Avista, Kalima.
  • Design / privacy anytime: Keemala and Paresa are less dependent on perfect surf.
